Sample Bequest Language

If you wish to name the Islands Trust Conservancy in your will or estate plan, we should be named as:

The Islands Trust Conservancy board

The Islands Trust Conservancy board is classified by the Income Tax Act and the Canada Revenue Agency as a qualified done.  When naming the the Islands Trust Conservancy board in your will, you don't need to include a charitable tax number to receive a tax receipt for your gift.

 

Specific Bequest 

Should you wish to leave a specific amount of money or specific asset to the Islands Trust Conservancy, you can use the following wording:

"I give to the Islands Trust Conservancy board, currently of 200-1627 Fort Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8R 1H8 the sum of $__________ to be used in such a manner as the Islands Trust Conservancy board shall, in its sole discretion, determine."
or
"I give to the Islands Trust Conservancy board, of 200-1627 Fort Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8R 1H8 the sum of $__________ to be used for the support of its mandate in the following Local Trust Area(s):________________."

 

Contingent Bequest Language

Should you wish to leave a bequest to the Islands Trust Conservancy only after your loved ones are cared for, you can use the following wording:

"In the event that my ____________ does not survive me, I give to the the Islands Trust Conservancy board the sum of $__________ to be used in such manner as the Islands Trust Conservancy board shall, in its sole discretion, determine."
or
"Upon the death of my ___________, the remainder of my estate shall be paid to the Islands Trust Conservancy board to be used in such manner as the Islands Trust Conservancy board shall, in its sole discretion, determine."
or
"In the event that there is no beneficiary alive at the time they are entitled to receive a share of my estate, then the shares of the estate that they would have been entitled to receive shall go to the Islands Trust Conservancy board."
