Species at Risk

The B.C. Conservation Data Centre has recorded sightings of Dense spike-primrose (red listed), Graceful arrow-grass (red listed), Red-legged frog (blue listed), Henderson's checker-mallow (blue listed), Sharp-tailed snake (red listed), Peregrine Falcon, anatum subspecies (red listed), Erect pygmyweed (red listed), Slender popcornflower (red listed), Propertius duskywing (blue listed), Lindley's microseris (red listed), Spanish-clover (blue listed), Moss' elfin, mossii subspecies (blue listed), Slender woolly-heads (blue listed), Graceful arrow-grass (red listed), Tufted Puffin (blue listed), Brant (yellow listed), Chaffweed (blue listed), Purple sanicle (red listed), Manroot (red list), Sand-verbena moth (red listed), Contorted-pod evening-primrose (red listed) and Townsend's Big-eared Bat (blue listed) in the North Pender Island Local Trust Area.  There have also been sightings of the Band-tailed Pigeon (blue listed).  There may be additional species at risk in the North Pender Island Local Trust Area that are not recorded with the B.C. Conservation Data Centre or whose locations are considered confidential information.

Forested Ecosystems

The North Pender Island Local Trust Area is in the Coastal Douglas-fir Zone.  More than 16 hectares of old forest ecosystems were found in the local trust area.  The breakdown of forests by age class is (note: this includes woodland sensitive ecosystems, so percentages will vary from the sensitive ecosystems section above):
