Mapping Data for Conservation Partners

Terrestrial Mapping
Terrestrial ecosystem mapping for the Islands Trust area were created in partnership with Parks Canada, the Ministry of Environment, and the Islands Trust. The mapping was completed in accordance with the Resource Information Standards Committee (RISC) Standard for Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping in British Columbia.
The Terrestrial ecosystem mapping formed the basis for the Sensitive Ecosystem Maps used by the Islands Trust Conservancy. Digital sensitive ecosystem data is available on MapIT, the Islands Trust's interactive web-based mapping tool. View the ecosystem mapping on MapIT
Digital versions of each island's sensitive ecosystem map are also available here.
The Islands Trust Conservancy is happy to share mapping data and hard-copy maps to organizations involved in conservation in the Islands Trust area. We also welcome opportunities to refine this mapping with more detailed data from our local partners, when resources allow.

Foreshore Mapping
Over 86% of our region is underwater. Our island ecosystems are very much connected to the marine environment. The health of our region is reliant on the health of our marine ecosystems.
To improve our ability to conserve marine habitat, the Islands Trust Conservancy is currently working with the Islands Trust and local conservation partners to improve our nearshore mapping and data, including mapping of eelgrass and forage fish habitat. Mapping of eelgrass beds and forage fish habitat is now available on MapIT. Eelgrass mapping reports and maps can be found here and forage fish maps and reports are available here.
