Because the Islands Trust Conservancy was established by the Islands Trust Act, our operating budget is provided for by the Islands Trust through the property tax revenue it collects. This makes the Islands Trust Conservancy a unique land trust, in that we have a stable source of funding to draw from in order to continue to protect the nature reserves and covenants entrusted to us forever.
However, that government funding does not include money for land acquisition and special stewardship projects. We rely on donations of land and covenants to protect new land, and raise money from businesses, foundations, and individuals to purchase ecologically-rich properties that can't be protected any other way.
Individuals from throughout the islands, the province and even Canada give generously to help us secure properties that otherwise might be developed and their ecosystems lost. We've learned it takes a community to protect land for the future. We are grateful to those who help us achieve conservation success, like the purchase of Medicine Beach on North Pender Island and Squitty Bay on Lasqueti Island.
Because our operating budget is provided for, your donations go directly to on-the-ground conservation. When you make a donation to the Islands Trust Conservancy for conservation, you receive a tax receipt for income tax purposes. Please help protect island landscapes for the future.
